They also aid in reducing the risk of Parkinson’s disease, heart attack and stroke. Onions are helpful in increasing the bone density, especially in the women who are in their menopausal age and hence lower the risk of hip fracture. Antioxidants found in onions keep the fatty acids away from oxidation. A major health benefit onions provide is that they lower the risk of numerous kinds of cancers like colorectal cancer, laryngeal cancer, and ovarian cancer. Even you take an onion 1-2 time per week or sometime 5-6 times per week, it is considered enough to protect yourself from the above mentioned cancer type. However, in case of esophageal cancer and cancers of the mouth, the significant reduction in cancer is shown only when they are taken daily in the diet.
Researchers have warned about the problems that can occur in some people by eating onions. The carbohydrates present in onions can become a cause of gas and bloating. People who already suffer chronic heartburn or some gastric disease should avoid taking onions as they can worsen their medical condition. Vitamin K is present in huge amount in green onions and if you increase the consumption of those onions, it can decrease blood thinner functioning. There is a probability that some people might be allergic to onion or have some food intolerance but the chances are very rare. The symptoms of onion-allergic patients are red and itchy eyes. Even their skin is so sensitive that if onion comes in contact, there appear rashes all over it. Some people may even experience vomiting, nausea or some other gastric problems due to onion intolerance. One must take care while buying onions. You can keep them for a long time, however, fresh ones are always preferable.
